I really love Prince Arthas, and I guess I'll be submitting more works featuring him soon. This art is just a beginning of my tribute to the Fallen Prince.

I still can't get hold of myself after the 3.3. I mean... how could Blizzard screw up this story so badly with such an atrocious ending?

I looked forward to WoTLK so badly for over 5-6 years. It still hurts that Blizzard simply took a piss on the W3 lovers. :/

Anyways, hope you'll enjoy.

This is so amazing and deep! I think I've fainted.
I remember reading the book about Arthas and wishing so badly that he had stopped early on, married Jaina and became king.  It was when he killed Uther that my heart truly broke in the story.
This is so cool I can't stand it...

Thank you for commenting :) I felt the same way back during W3. The book I didn't enjoy as much but it did play on my emotions at times. I'm glad this picture captured at least a bit of that sentimentality, especially after so many years :)

This is the part that I could never get... Look at the title of this: "It's never too late." This pretty much means that at ANY point in time Arthas could have been redeemed, but Chris Metzen screwed up Arthas' story in-favor for his green hard-on called Thrall, whom he also screwed up... Come on, "Go'el"? Really??? -.-

Doesn't Arthas not have a choice? I have played Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos and it would seem that when Arthas took Frostmourne be changed. Everything we was fighting for, counting saving his people, was it would seem forgotten. Instead of saving his people... he slaughtered them.

When talking to a friend of mine he told me the sword possessed Arthas, took him over. Inaddition... Frostmourne is in a sense the Lichking, and turns any that wield it into what it wants to be. As such, if he is possessed and the sword is controlling him... how does he have a choice? How is it not to late?
------------

To be honest I found the game frustrating, I had no choice but to see Arthas fall to see what it would seem was once a great hero become twisted by his anger and thirt for vengence. There was times I wanted to move my hands into the game and strangle Arthas.

When I was reading the epilog i whished for something like this to happen.

Though in the book he seems to kill his human self, I do believe this was not over. I mean, remember that quest line with his heart? Saving life of the person who was stupid enough to touch strange black thingie under the Citadel - how stupid one must be to do so? *facepalm* - his human self helped paladins to get close enough. I wonder, what could've happened if Fordring didn't give up so easily on Arthas' redemption. The Ashbringer was forged out of a dark artefact that was purified by the Light. Why the heart couldn't share the fate? Or did it at the moment Tirion stroke?

Awwwww! Thanks so much for this comment. I really appreciate your thoughts and I agree with them 100%. I personally think the whole ICC storyline was fucked up by the developers who didn't gave it much thought and had little knowledge of the lore. From the quest lines in Northrend Tirion seems as pure evil character. He has no traits of a protagonist. He's not patient, compassionate and he seems to be driven by revenge alone. I'm pretty much sure Ashbringer would become corrupted once again wielded by him, but instead they made him the 'paragon of light' just by repeating so over and over again. But what Tiron actually did? He organised a Tournament where he watched champions senselessly slaughter wild animals, accepted warlock to do some twisted shit, then allowed horde and alliance kill themselves all in his name. After that he sentenced to death imprisoned val'kyrs. Is that what a good guy does? Don't think so. Tbh all that time I hoped for Tirion to be possessed by Mal'ganis, who swore revenge on Ner'zul. but that thread was abandoned and we were given morally very questionable character as a paragon. I hate Tirion to bits. And I was really saddened that Jaina and Sylvanas didn't took any direct part in encounter with the Lich King.

I can't hate Tirion or anyone else in this story more that I hate Uther. He saw the danger of Arthas being so immature and impatient as he was and didn't do a thing about it, wanting to "see what happens" first. Nice job, man, really nice job. Bravo!
I love the mission where you get to kill him. And I laughed so hard when I was reading Tides of Darkness, 'cause Lothar said there that Uther can be dangerous as a mentor. I was all like "told ya!"

Getting back to the topic, Tirion seemed kinda good guy in Blood and Honor. Have you read it? Though I can't help but agree - the whole idea of the Tournament seemed rather pointless. Then again, if Horde and Alliance wanted to kill each other, they might at least do it somewhere, where the fallen ones won't become part the Scourge. I think Arthas had a real danger of accidently killing himself with a lot of /facepalms before they even got to him.

I wish Jaina, Sylvanas or even Varian took part in the last battle somehow, and I'm glad Muradin did, but even more than that I wished this story to end in a different way. Arthas could've become a powerful ally in the war agains the Legion after all.

Thanks again for your insightful comments, I'm sorry I wasn't able to reply sooner.

Unfortunately I haven't read any of those stories you've mentioned. The only one I read was the Day of the Dragon and it was ages ago. I don't like the 'new' books, 'cuz they seem kinda forced attempts on creating new lore to fit Blizzard convenience, but then again I might be wrong.

The absence of any core story characters in Lich King's downfall actually pins out the biggest problem of WoW nowadays- Metzen's disregard to 'old' characters and story and his egocentric nature of highlighting 'his own' characters- aka Tirion and Thrall. It's no wonder the story went to crapper the very moment old designers left Blizz at the beginning of Vanilla.

Most of events no longer makes sense, old characters suddenly act OOC and etc. But yeah I could go on and on. ^^" I just miss W3 and it's awesome chars.

Pardon,RL took over me.

I don't like the books 'cause sometimes I feel my brain being /mindblast'ed by parts of lore, that confront each other. But some books are still worth reading.

TBH I can understand Metzen. It's much easier to write about character you created, that worry about OOC of the one created by someome else. Cannot say I blame him for that. It could've been worse. Now we can assume that we missed something, watching the whole story from Tirion's point of view, think and add detaild we want to be a part of that story. Imagine if they made him just pure evil w/o any trace of his character left at all?

W3 is one of my fav games even now. Oh, can I QQ about Arthas model in WoW being so ugly? It sometimes seems they just hated the guy and made his story and his look such a... ahem, you know.

There is so much symbolism in this painting. I love it.
I still deny the death of Arthas! He should not have and like this. ... To epic to die! I believe Arthas was a good guy, really. The lich kiing made him insane...

Even though i must admit. Even with his death - The sorry is still epic. I wish they made him good again in some way, though...

If Blizzard, now, Kill Zeratul from SC, or make him evil, i will not pay their games anymore!!! :(

Awww! You have no idea how much you cheered me up with that comment :) You have officially made my day! ^^

I tried to express all my feelings in this picture. I was worried at some point that I might have made it bit too deep ^^ But I'm glad someone else finds it as much entertaining and appealing as I do.

Thanks a lot for that.

PS. I too am very disappointed with the climax of the Lich King's story. I'm very upset that Arthas's passing happened without any supporting character, as Jaina, Sylvanas or Wrynn. It was very random and plainly dull. Sometimes I'm ashamed of having the title 'Kingslayer' :/

Quote:

'The boy extended his arms, as if he were a living, breathing child asking to be picked up and held by
a loving father. “It doesn’t have to be too late,” he said quietly.

“No,” Arthas said quietly, staring raptly at the boy. “It doesn’t.”

He touched the curve of the boy’s cheek, slipped a hand beneath the small chin and tilted up the
shining face. He smiled into his own eyes.
“But it is.” '

One of the most saddest parts of the book if you ask me =( , Btw great picture, and I totally agree with you saying that Blizzard screw everything up bcs they want to 'improve' the gameplay so that they could get more money...

Sadly, it was one of the few parts of the entire book I really enjoyed. Most of it was hard to digest- horrid and messed up in many parts...

...but yeah. The moment you quoted was the inspiration for the drawing.
